About Trip

Makalu trekking is also one of the popular trekking destinations in Nepal. Mt. Makalu (8463m) is the fifth highest peak in the world. During the trekking to the area, one cannot only see the Mt. Makalu but also various other mountains such as Mt. Chamlang (7319 m), Mt. Baruntse (7129m) to name a few stretching over 40 km along with Mt. Makalu, which lies at the eastern part of the country and is protected by the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Project. The park was established in 1992, which covers altogether 2330 sq km. Makalu trekking does not only offer a remarkable sceneries of the mountains but also the varieties of flora and fauna, the plants of all major ecological zones, tropical, sub-tropical, temperate, alpine and sub-alpine that are found in the national park, is considered the home to a rich variety of wildlife.

Makalu TrekkingThis trekking is considered to be the natural paradise as that includes the beautiful mountains, pristine forest, and a wide variety of plants, animal life and the simple and warm hearted people local people with rich and varied customs. This is considered to be the low altitude trekking, mostly centered at Arun Valley, the eastern part of Nepal. The valley that holds a mighty Arun River and dense forest that is contrasted with the terraced slopes, where you also can see that diverse tribal groups residing in unity and the Makalu-Barun National Park, an important conservation area of many species, which are on the verge of extinct. Makalu trekking is a well-loved trekking routes among the clients of Budget Adventure Treks Expeditions.
The trekking to Mt. Makalu begins from Tumlingtar, where we reach by direct flight from Kathmandu. From Tumlingtar we head to Manebhanjyang Crossing Tumlingtar, we reach at valleys, where many ethnic communities inhibit who have long preserved their culture. Trekking route passes through the lush forest, sub-tropical valley, flora and fauna, natural showcase and scenic views of the majestic Himalayas. Subsequently to proceed the out journey to chinchilla and then to Num, Seduwa, Tashingaon, Khongma, Mumbuk and we finally reach at Neh Kharka and take a rest for acclimatization, once we are ready with the altitude, we proceed our trekking to Yak Kharka and then finally we reach at Makalu base camp, where we rest and explore the scenes of this less explored areas and then after all we return back to Neh Kharka and then to Mumbuk, subsequently to Khogma, Seduwa, and then at Num, Chichilla and Manebhanjyan and finally we come back to Tumlingtar and fly back to Kathmandu.

Day 03:Tumlingtar (487m) to Khandbari / Manebhanjyang (1,160m). 4 hrs

Day 04:Manebhanjyang to Chichila (1,920m). 5 hrs

Day 05:Chichila to Num (1,500m). 6-8 hours

Day 06:Num to Seduwa (Murmidanda) (1,510m). 5-7 hrs

Day 07:Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,060m).

Day 08:rest day

Day 09:Tashigaon to Khongma (3,500m).

Day 10:Khongma to Dobato (3,500m).

Day 11:Dobato to Yangle Kharka (3,540m).

Day 13:Yangle Kharka to Langmale (4,100m).

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrive Kathmandu, transfer to hotel.Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport representative from Budget Adventure Treks & Expeditions will take you to the hotel.

Day 02Kathmandu sightseeingToday we will take a tour featuring the highlights of Kathmandu including several UNESCO world heritage sites such as Durbar Square and Pashupati temple before visiting Sqayambhunath, and Buddha Nath, which is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. After lunch, we will hold a briefing with your trekking guide addressing any questions or concerns you may have about your trip.

Day 03Tumlingtar (487m) to Khandbari / Manebhanjyang (1,160m). 4 hrsFly to Tumlingtar which is an hour flight.We walk north towards Khandbari, then begin walking on a plateau for around 45 minutes after the trails climbing gradually to Khandbari. We camp above the village.

Day 04Manebhanjyang to Chichila (1,920m). 5 hrsAfter breakfast walk through many small picturesque villages most of the time the walk is uphill and you will be walking through bamboo groves and a rhododendron forest. Our camp is at Chichela a small settlement of Gurungs at 1830m.

Day 05Chichila to Num (1,500m). 6-8 hoursToday we start walking with views of snow capped peaks in the distance. Fantastic views of Makalu and its surrounding peak. Walk on a striaght path, with little ups and downs, through forest to have lunch at about 2 hrs and then start descending to reach Num. Camp

Day 06Num to Seduwa (Murmidanda) (1,510m). 5-7 hrsThe trail today descends steeply from Num through the Cornfield of Lumbang. The country is particularly rocky; tiny terraces planted with corn and barley, then we have tough steep climb to Sedua. Camp

Day 07Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,060m). Last village before entering the uninhabited Makalu-Barun National Park. Lodging / camping, available. 3-4 hrs

Day 08rest day Rest at Tashigaon to acclimatise.

Day 09Tashigaon to Khongma (3,500m). Sharp elevation gains heed altitude sickness symptoms. 6-8 hrs

Day 10Khongma to Dobato (3,500m). Cross Shipton Pass (4,216m),and Keke Pass (4,127 m). 5 hrs

Day 11Dobato to Yangle Kharka (3,540m). We set off early to minimize landslide risks, through this rough section, that is uncharacteristic of Nepal. The trail leads down to the river and we progress slowly over boulders and in slippery gullies, below steep loos

Day 23Dap Kharka to Tamku:Tamku is an active farming community and local government centre. The community takes responsibility for managing its own forests, which provide for their basic living needs

Day 24Tamku to Bumlingtar. Descend to and cross the Arun River, and camp by the river in flat fields, the first flat land you've seen in a while

Day 25Bumlingtar to Kathmandu via tumlingtar Bumlikgtar to Tumlingtar by trek and tumlingtar to kathmandu by flight
